How To Repair A Hot Water Cylinder At Home?

A Hot water cylinder is an appliance which heats up the existing water and stores it until it’s used. Although it can be quite helpful, it does tend to get damaged. Leakage is the most common damages which make it nearly unusable until the leak is repaired. There are several ways the leakage can be observed and treated depending on the place it is present.

Water can leak from pipes or flood out of the water tank inside the water heater. If the water is emitting out from the pipes and spraying all around, it gives a good sign as there isn’t any fault inside the water heater which can pose a bigger problem. To repair this, turn off the main valve as soon as you can to stop the wastage of water. If convenient close the valve only nearer to the pipe so that whole house’s supply doesn’t stop. You can look up on how to change the pipe if you don’t know how to or simply contact a plumber to change the pipe from one joint to another.

Make sure to first let the water drain out of the pipes then adjust the new pipe in the leaked pipe place. In case the water is from the water tank, the work is a bit complicated. The leakage inside is the cause of water accidentally falling in the space inside the tank and outer wall of hot water cylinder, as a result, corrosion occurs making the tank body fragile and broken. The solution for this is to install a new water heater tank which can be a difficult task so better to let a professional plumber Auckland do it. The water sitting inside would be dirty now so it’s better to let is empty itself so that the place can be cleaned and a new tank can be placed inside.

Although these leaks can be noticed, there are a few ones which easily slip under the radar until inspected thoroughly. The water could be leaking from the pipe connections for which it is better to ask a plumber to exchange them for better ones. If the water is dripping from the pipes, the only problem would loosen up valve so the only thing to do is close that valve tightly so that no water can leak through. If it still doesn’t work, then it may be the valve not working properly, to which the solution is to replace it. In cold climate, sometimes the water condenses which appears like the water is leaked but that is not the case so also keep an eye for these type of conditions which may not be harmful signs at all.
