Types and Working of Chillers

Chillers are one of the most imperative cooling equipment that is mostly used in laboratories. And the main function of these coolers is the removal of heat. It removes the heat from one element, and then it passes it to other sources just like air.

Unlike air conditioners that are designed to cool the air, the coolers are a compressor-based device that is designed to cool and control the temperature of a liquid. Other than the compressor, there are many other components involved in such coolers, including a temperature controller, a reservoir, and a recirculating pump.

Chillers

There are different types of equipment, and these are as follows:

Air-cooled chillers:

This type of chillers are designed to absorb heat from process water, and after absorption, it can transfer it to the ambient air. This is mostly used in such areas and applications where the discharge of heat is not a serious factor.

Also, in these systems, there is no need for a cooling tower along with a condense water pump. And these units require less maintenance as compared to water-cooled units. These units hardly consume 10% of the power.

Water-cooled chillers:

The function of these coolers is similar to the air-cooled chillers, but there is only one difference that these units are also designed to absorb heat from process water but is then transferred to a separate water source. This water source is like a pond, river, cooling tower, etc.

These units are mostly used in the areas and places where air-cooled chillers are not suitable and causing issues. And just like an industrial fridge, these systems offer optimum efficiency, and it consumes less power.

Chillers

The functioning of chillers:

It has quite a simple working principle. In its entire working process, the reservoir is filled with a liquid. This liquid can be water or ethylene glycol or water mix to be recirculated. Then the reservoir that is filled with a fluid can be connected to the device and power is provided to the cooler. Its main function is mainly regulated by the temperature controller.

You are allowed to set the parameters of this unit according to one’s personal requirements and preferences. You can control temperature, the flow of fluid, as well as pressure according to your needs. And chillers also includes an internal strainer that is utilized to keep the harmful particles away from the unit.
